The dinner was fun with Felix, and he ended up escorting me home amid laughter and affection.

I was quite surprised how the evening had turned out. I was not expecting to have any fun, but as it was, I was getting to my front door feeling a sense of euphoria. There was no way I would have ever been able to guess that things could have turned out that fun.

Seeing Drake with Jane was the highlight of my evening. Everybody on the cheerleading squad did not like her very much because she was very arrogant and boogie. Sometimes I wondered why she agreed to do cheerleading in the first place; she could do anything she wanted from the way she talked.

Jane was continually getting into conflict with some of her colleagues, which made her look really bad. Once, we had an argument about a guy she was seeing and thought I was trying to steal him away from her. It made me permanently hate her.

She was always going after the essential team members, the popular guys she felt could match her own popularity. And so it was really nice to see her being linked with Drake; he was no good.

The two of them deserved each other, anyway. Judging from how he had treated me, he deserved to have a woman who I was sure would not make him happy. And I was delighted that Felix had been so much help.

He had been a gentleman all evening, and I was surprised that he had agreed to walk me home. We were holding hands tenderly, and once we got to my front door, he took my face into his hands and kissed me.

“There’s no need to keep up the charade,” I said, staring into his eyes. The evening had been fun, but I knew we would have to move on.

“This is not a charade. I would like us to continue what we started.”

I laughed. “You must be drunk. Look, I’m not into one-night stands.”

“I’m serious,” Felix insisted, grabbing my hand and placing a kiss on it. “I really like you, and I think we can hit it off.”

“That’s surprising to hear that, coming from you.”

He shook his head. “Look, I like you for real. I don’t just want to get in your pants. Let’s go out on a romantic dinner together.”

I looked at him for a long moment, waiting for him to burst out laughing or tell me he was just kidding. The attention he gave me was flattering, but there was no way I would fall for this prank.

“I’m serious, Mandy.”

The Tight End was not laughing, and he was looking sincerely into my eyes. He was a handsome man, there was no question about that, and I thought the way he was kissing me was really hot. For once, I found myself contemplating the idea of actually going out on a date with him.

“What brought this on?” I had to ask.
